Painter stage 1

A left-facing profile rises above a compressed, folded body. The forward knee reaches into the open paper; the sleeve descends toward hands gathered over the lap. Hair, collar, the underside of the thigh and the seated contacts carry the deepest darks.
Construct the weight and folded relationships with interrupted charcoal masses, let the face remain partly lost, and bring the hands into focus through small, searching pencil decisions. Preserve the large empty field to the left.
Painter stage 2

The first drawing has heavy enclosing lines and disconnected folds. The reference carries its weight through the dark scarf, the compressed lap, and the underside of the raised knee; the sleeve and face emerge more quietly.
Lift the enclosing lines, reconnect the folded body with broad broken tones, and concentrate small decisions at the hands while preserving the open left field.
