THE FIELD

Your palette is two things at once.
What the colors are. What they're doing.

The Field reads color the way a painter does — the palette and each color's job, and whether that color rides the structure of the picture or floats free of it. In plain language, in your browser.

It reads color as behavior, not taste.

Most color tools pull a palette and stop. The Field asks the harder question — what is each color for, and is the color built into the picture or laid over it? It comes from the Visual Thinking Lens (VTL) color kernel, working in OKLab so lightness, chroma, and hue are measured the way the eye weighs them.

01 — NAME THE PALETTE

Palette & roles

A deterministic five-color OKLab palette, each swatch assigned a compositional job — ground, light, shadow, structure, accent — with its lightness, chroma, and share of the field.

02 — TEST THE COUPLING

Does color ride the structure?

The kernel measures the high-chroma mass against the structural mass: do they stack, or separate? The Coupling Index says whether color is doing structural work or floating as an independent layer.

03 — SAY IT PLAINLY

A read, not a score

The numbers become paragraphs: what the palette is, what its loudest color is doing, whether the value or the hue is carrying the picture, and two or three concrete things to try.

Two ways in.

The same instrument serves two audiences: people who make images, and people who make image-makers.

A color crit on demand.

The half of a studio review that's hardest to get: not "nice colors," but whether your color is structural or decorative, where your accent is actually sending the eye, and whether value or hue is doing the work.

FOR GEN-AI TEAMS & MODEL LABS

Your model has a color signature. We can read it.

Generators don't just settle compositionally — they settle chromatically: narrow hue fields, one dominant palette cluster, color that floats decoratively over form. The Field measures palette compression, hue breadth, and color-structure coupling across an output corpus.

  • Batch audits: palette-compression and coupling distributions
  • Model-vs-model color-signature comparison
  • Deterministic, training-data-agnostic, model-internals-agnostic
